Lockdowns in China and logistical problems More

• Shenzhen: Still closed warehouses/manufacturing facilities. Ports remain open for the time being, but there are difficulties in loading containers and getting them into port. The announced timeframe for restrictions is one week. Agents hope they will be lifted early next week. All staff are working from home and responding to emails as usual.

• Ports in Guangzhou, Shanghai, Ningbo, Xiamen, Dalian, Tianjin, Qingdao: Are experiencing difficulties due to increased public testing. Shanghai/Tianjin employees are working at home until the situation improves. Supply chains from/to ports may face difficulties as government has ordered local port closures.

• Hong Kong: Operating as usual despite high infection rates.

Kazakhstan's ferrous scrap exports to Russia continue to grow More

In January this year, 58.2 thousand tons of black scrap metal was exported from Kazakhstan to Russia. Compared with the previous month, the volume of supplies decreased by 19.8%, and in annual terms - increased by 12.6%. At the same time, the volume of shipments was markedly higher than in recent years. In January, the average price of black scrap at the Russian border was $336.1 per tonne, 10.7% lower than the December price, but 24.3% higher than the January 2021 price.

January output of rolled steel in Kazakhstan increased by 39.3% More

In January 2022, Kazakhstan produced 359,945 tonnes of crude steel (387,484 tonnes a month earlier). The year-on-year improvement was 5%, according to the National Statistics Bureau of Kazakhstan's Strategic Planning and Reform Agency. Flat rolled product output in Kazakhstan's steel mills totaled 252,550 tons in January (350,550 tons in December), a 39.3% year-on-year increase. January ferroalloys production volumes declined year-on-year by 18.4% to 155,097 tonnes.

Kazakhstan reduced steel output for the year, but increased output of flat steel products More

During December 2021 Kazakhstan produced 387,484 tonnes of steel (vs. 391,396 tonnes a month earlier). The year-on-year decline is 8.5%. In January-December, the figures improved by 12.2% to 4,498,995 tonnes, according to the Kazakhstan Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms' national statistics bureau. December flat-rolled steel production stood at 350,550 tonnes (350,489 tonnes in November), up 24.3% from December 2020. Kazakhstani steelmakers produced a total of 3,056,273 tonnes of flat steel in 2021, a 19.2% year-on-year increase. Ferroalloys production decreased in December by 5.5% YoY to 192,469 tonnes and by 6.6% YoY to 2,068,484 tonnes in 2021.
